A funeral was held today, 4/4, for Nicholas Flacco, the son of Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Chris Flacco, who was shot and killed last weekend in FDR Park. Services were held at St. Albert the Great Church in Lower Moreland at noon. Nick had returned home from Penn State University for the weekend to celebrate his 20th birthday with family and friends. On Saturday night, 3/30, Flacco was with a group of friends tailgating in the park following a Phillies game. Fights broke out between two groups in the park. 19-year-old Tyquan "Fats" Atkinson was called in and arrived with a gun. He fired a couple of warning shots before shooting Flacco in the torso after being dared by Flacco's friends. Atkinson was apprehended by US Marshals in Chester on Wednesday, 4/3. He was arraigned this morning on 6 counts including murder. Bail was denied.

Police in Bucks County found the body of a man in the Delaware Canal on Thursday morning, 4/4. Authorities responded to reports of a missing fisherman in Upper Makefield Township. The body of 73-year-old Leland Smeltz of Langhorne was found in the water around 10:30 a.m. near Taylorsville Road. The canal runs next to the Delaware River. Police say his death does not look suspicious. They do not yet know how he ended up in the water. The medical examiner needs to determine cause of death.

Fire crews in Cumberland County, New Jersey, have been battling a large fire at a recycling plant all afternoon, 4/4. It started just after noon at Giordano's Recycling and Scrap Metal located at 110 North Mill Rd. in Vineland. The blaze quickly went to 3 alarms. Large amounts of paper and cardboard at the plant are adding to the fuel. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
