Abington Cop Impersonator Steals Weed; CCP and Teachers at Table; Wawa Liquor Licenses, The Rooster

Abington Police have arrested a man for impersonating an officer in Montgomery County on March 25th. It happened at 10 p.m. on the 1100 block of Colonial Avenue in the Roslyn section of Abington. 42-year-old Dennis McGowen pulled over a vehicle using flashing white and blue lights on his SUV. He approached the three occupants of the vehicle and said, "Give me the weed or I will let my dog out on you." They complied and McGowen drove off. Police arrested McGowen on Saturday, 3/30. He is charged with robbery, false imprisonment, impersonating a public servant, and other related offenses. Police say he is not a police officer in Abington Township or anywhere.

Administrators at the Community College of Philadelphia and the American Federation of Teachers Local 2026 were back at the negotiating table on Monday, April 1st, trying to stave off a strike by the faculty. The two sides also talked for five hours Sunday night. Last week, members of AFT Local 2026 voted to authorize a strike in April. The teachers are asking for more pay and lighter workloads. There are 1,200 teachers and 27,000 students at CCP.

Wawa placed the highest bid for two liquor licenses in Pennsylvania Liquor Control Boardâ€™s March auction. The convenience store operator bid $186,357 for Philadelphia and $160,357 for Middletown Township, Delaware County. Wawa said that it does not have any specific plans to share at this time regarding the licenses. Top bidders have 14 days from the Notice of Selection to remit full bid payment to the state and then six months to file a license application. There is only one Wawa store in Pennsylvania that sells beer. It is located in Chadds Ford, Delaware County.

Wawa has teamed up for Center City restaurant The Rooster (aka. Rooster Soup Company) to create a specialty hoagie for charity. The Broad Street Meatball was created by Wawa Chef Farley Kaiser and The Rooster's Mike Solomonov and Steve Cook. It includes a toasted Amoroso roll, provolone cheese, garlic aioli, cherry pepper relish, meatballs and parmesan cheese. The sandwich will be available at all 15 Center City Wawa locations and The Rooster during April. Proceeds from sales up to $10,000 will go towards Broad Street Ministry Hospitality Collaborative. "The 'Hoagies for Hope' campaign is designed to bring awareness and support to Broad Street Ministry, an organization dedicated to transforming Philadelphia and its institutions by empowering individuals to embrace the needs of the most vulnerable in the region," Wawa said in a statement.
