LOVE Park to get Loveluck Restaurant; Mother and Child Found in DE Apt; Oil Spill in NJ Lake Linden

Mayor Jim Kenney and other officials were on hand Wednesday, 3/13, to announce the last phase of LOVE Park's (aka John F Kennedy Plaza) multi-million dollar renovation. The focus is on the corner at 16th and JFK Blvd where the iconic 'flying saucer' building that used to house the Welcome Center stands. The building will be transformed into a full service restaurant called "Loveluck" and will be run by Safran Turney Hospitality. Safran also runs Philly restaurants like Barbuzzo, Little Nonna's Verde, Bud & Marilyn's, and more. The newly installed 360-degree specialty glass windows were unveiled. There will be plenty of seating inside, outside, and on the balcony. It is set to open in the fall.

The bodies of a mother and her toddler son were discovered in a New Castle County, Delaware apartment on Wednesday morning, 3/13. 45-year-old Laura Connell and her 18-month-old son Walton were found dead in their apartment in Newport. Connell's sister made the discovery around 9 a.m. inside building 106 at the Stonehurst Garden Apartments on the 100 block of Richards Avenue. She said that her sister had recently lost a custody battle and was supposed to turn her son over to the boy's father who lives in Texas. The Delaware Division of Forensic Science will perform autopsies to determine cause of death. Neighbors were shocked by the incident, the neighborhood is usually a quiet place. Police continue to investigate.

UPDATE: Laura Connell's death has been ruled a suicide due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Walton's cause of death has not yet been determined by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science, but investigators say he was not shot.

Police in Camden County, NJ, are looking for a home renovator they say is responsible for heating oil that ended up in a local lake. NJ Department of Environmental Protection and Camden County clean-up crews are dealing with the oily mess at Linden Lake in Lindenwold. Camden County spokesman Dan Keashen said, "It looks like a home renovator was pumping home heating oil out of a basement into a backyard," he said. "It then drained into a stream that flowed into Linden Lake."

A Kobe Bryant fan in China figured out that the signed replica high school jersey he recently purchased online was the one stolen from Lower Merion's trophy case two years ago. 28-year-old Liu Zhe bought the jersey in October 2018 from an online memorabilia dealer for $2,000. Liu noticed that the jersey was very similar to the one that had been swiped in February 2017. He contacted Lower Merion officials and shipped the jersey back without recompense. He only wanted Kobe to know that the jersey had been returned. Asked about his gesture, Liu described a signed photo Bryant gave him a few years ago, "He signed, 'Dream big! Live epic! Mamba mentality,' " Liu said. "What I did was my 'mamba mentality.'"
