Bucks Teens Die in Snowy Crash; Philly Cashless Store Ban; Federal Charges for Boston Kidnapper

Two Bucks County teenagers were killed in a car crash during Sunday night's snow storm. 18-year-old Michelle Goodwin of Pennsburg and 18-year-old Daniel Pierson of Red Hill got off work at 5 p.m. at the Dairy Queen in Pennsburg. Their 17-year-old friend came in his 1995 Ford pickup truck to give them a ride to go out to dinner. Around 5:30 p.m., they were on Route 633 in Milford Township when the pickup truck left the road and struck a tree. The two teens were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital. Police have not determined the cause of the crash, but it was snowing and the roads were snow covered at the time. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

Last week, Philadelphia Mayor Kenney signed off on legislation that bans most cashless stores and retail locations. The bill prohibits stores from refusing to take cash or charging customers who pay cash a higher price. Businesses that violate the bill can be fined $2,000. It goes into effect on July 1st. Supporters of the law say that it protects lower income customers who do not have credit cards, bank accounts, or mobile phone apps from discrimination. Opponents argue that it is stopping progress. Several retail stores in the city already have gone cashless such as Sweetgreen and Bluestone Lane. They say not taking cash reduces the risk of robbery and improves efficiency. In addition, Amazon will now reconsider plans for its cashierless Amazon Go convenience stores in the city. There are some exemptions including, parking garages, whole sale clubs, and internet/phone/mail sales.

The Rhode Island man arrested in Delaware on Thursday, 2/28, with the body of a Massachusetts women in his truck is now facing federal charges. U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Andrew Lelling announced on Sunday, 3/3, that 32-year-old Louis D. Coleman III is charged with kidnapping, resulting in death. He faces the death penalty if convicted. Coleman was identified as a suspect in the disappearance of 23-year-old Jassy Correia. She was last seen leaving a nightclub in Boston on February 24th. Police searched Coleman's apartment in Providence, Rhode Island. Delaware State Police pulled him over on I-95 near Newark and discovered Correia's body in the truck. Federal prosecutors are taking over the case.
