There is a Winter Storm Watch in effect for Philadelphia and surrounding areas from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday. We can expect several inches of heavy, wet snow across the region. Snow will start to fall from S to N in the mid afternoon Sunday. It will be all snow N and W totaling 6-8 inches. The city and suburbs could see a little mixing and totals between 3-6 inches. South Jersey and Delaware could see 1-3 inches before changing to rain. Be careful when shoveling, the snow will be heavy. For more information go to: http://www.weather.gov/phi/winter
The Philadelphia Phillies introduced their big time free agent acquisition during a press conference on Saturday afternoon, 3/2, at Specturm Field in Clearwater, FL. Bryce Harper sat next to Phillies owner John Middleton, general manager Matt Klentak, and his agent, Scott Boras. Harper's wife and parents were also there. Harper signed a 13-year, $330 million contract. "Beyond the money, years were important to me, being able to put down some roots and grow a family," Harper said. "At the end of this, I could have a couple of kids and they could be able to say they're from Philly." Harper put on his brand new red-pinstriped Phillies jersey #3. In Washington, he wore #34, but said at the press conference, "Roy Halladay should be the last Phillie to wear No. 34." Ticket sales, both single game and season tickets, have been way up since the deal was announced on Thursday. Harper's jersey has been flying off the shelves, hot off the presses, all over the city. It is not just about the one player, but an attitude change for the team. It also helps we got four other All-Stars this off-season (McCutchen, Segura, Realmuto, Robertson). Opening Day is March 28th.
A bus carrying members of the Southern Virginia University's lacrosse team burst into flames while traveling on the Schuylkill Expressway in Montgomery County on Friday night, 3/1. It happened around 8 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-76 near Gulph Mills. The team was traveling to Stockton College in Galloway Township, NJ for a game on Saturday morning. There were more than 50 people on the bus at the time. Everyone was able to escape unharmed and the players also saved their equipment. The cause of the fire is under investigation. One member of the team caught the inferno on video, see below:
