| Trash Emptied at Camden Apartments; 12yo Charged Rhawnhurt Shooting; ex-Officer Charged Sex Assault |

Trash trucks and other heavy equipment arrived at a New Jersey apartment complex on Tuesday morning, 2/19, for the first time in weeks. Over 30 dumpsters at the Crestbury Apartments in Camden, New Jersey, were well past overflowing with trash and garbage bags. The refuse was starting to attract animals and of course the smell. The landlord, for whatever reason, had stopped paying Waste Management to remove the trash. WM and Camden city crews came together today to clean up the mess. "This is unacceptable. I will be going back to my office and reaching out to the ownership," said Camden Mayor Frank Moran. "One thing we are going to do, is we're going to mobilize, which we have, and whatever costs we're going to incur, we’re going to bill them and more importantly, I’m throwing the book at them."
A 12-year-old Philadelphia boy has been charged in the accidental shooting of a 14-year-old girl in a home in Rhawnhurt on Monday, 2/19. It happened after 10 a.m. on the 2000 block of Glendale Ave. during a church group meeting. The boy was playing around with a firearm when it went off. The girl, visiting from Lansdale, Montgomery County, was shot in the face. She was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and remains in stable condition. Naved Samuel, who owns the twin home, says that his guns were in the safe and unloaded, but he doesn't know for sure because he wasn't there at the time. He identified his grandson as the shooter. Officials removed two shotguns and two handguns as well as a bulletproof vest from the residence. They are still trying to determine how the boy got his hands on the gun. He is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangering, and related offenses.
A former Philadelphia police officer was arrested on Tuesday, 2/20, for allegedly sexually assaulting male witnesses and suspects throughout his 10+ year detective career. 52-year-old Philip Nordo will be arraigned on a 35-count grand jury presentment that includes multiple accounts of rape, intimidation, sexual misconduct, and theft of city funds. Nordo was fired in 2017 after improperly placing funds on a witnesses commissary account and fraternizing with people connected to criminal conduct. Nordo is accused of using his position to intimidate and groom male suspects and witnesses into performing sexual acts. He is also accused of filing false claims for reward money worth about $20,000.
Weather
A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for all of the Philadelphia area from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night for heavy mixed winter precipitation. Snow won't start until after the morning rush. It will be heavy at times through lunchtime and the afternoon. Mixing of sleet and freezing rain will start in the late afternoon and evening. It will change to all rain from south to north by night time and lingering rain could last until Thursday morning. Temperatures on Wednesday will stay around freezing. The area could see 3-5" with a coating of ice. Philadelphia Public and Archdiocesan Schools will be closed on Wednesday. |
