Haverford Teen Shot in Face By Classmate Over Drug Deal; Kaminsky Sentenced; Shots Fired on Subway

One teen is in critical condition and another is in custody following a shooting linked to a botched drug deal in Havertown on Tuesday night, 2/12. It happened around 8:15 p.m. along Glen Gary Drive and Rose Tree Lane in the Westgate Hills neighborhood of Havertown. The victim, 18-year-old Marquis Mays, and another male were at the corner for an apparent drug deal involving an ounce of marijuana. Three other people were in a nearby car. There was some kind of argument and altercation and Mays was shot in the face. The suspects fled on foot. Police have charged 17-year-old James McCauley of Drexel Hill as an adult with attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, firearms without a license, possession of an instrument of crime, and receiving stolen property (suspect pictured). His bail was set at $1 million. Mays was taken to Lankenau Trauma Center and then to Jefferson University Hospital where he remains in critical condition. Investigators are looking through surveillance cameras from the mainly residential neighborhood. Mays is a senior as Haverford High School and plays football and track. McCauley also attends Haverford High School.

UPDATE:Haverford Township officials released more details about the incident at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. They say that Marquis Mays and another person arranged to buy one ounce of marijuana from James McCauley and two others for $150. McCauley was the driver of the vehicle involved. When the vehicle arrived at the meet location, Mays got into the back seat of the car to buy the drugs. Something went wrong and one of the males in the back seat became aggressive with Mays and started to fight. Police say that is when McCauley pulled out a black semi-automatic pistol and shot Mays as he was leaving the car. Police found Mays in the middle of the street. Police are looking for the others involved and are using surveillance to identify them. More arrests are expected. They say that the gun supposedly used was stolen last summer in a home robbery. McCauley's attorney and mother say the teen was acting in self defense.

Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland announced on Tuesday, 2/12, that 47-year-old Michael Kaminsky of Haverford was sentenced to 13-40 years in prison plus lifetime Megan's Law registration for repeatedly sexually assaulting a child. He was convicted back on November 16 of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, sexual assault, indecent assault, and child endangerment. Kaminsky was accused of sexually abused a 4-year-old boy who he was looking after in 2017. Copeland said, "The horrific actions of the defendant, Michael Kaminsky, are deplorable, abhorrent and reprehensible, as he sexually abused an innocent 4-year old child who was entrusted in his care." She praised the work of ADA Chris Boggs, Delaware County Children's Advocacy Center, Haverford PD Det. Albert Hufnal & Delaware County CID Det. Paul Corsi.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after shots were fired in the Lombard-South SEPTA station on Wednesday morning. It happened around 11:30 a.m. on the mezzanine level of the Lombard-South Station at South and Broad streets. A man with a gun went down the stairs into the subway, fired a couple of shots, and then fled. The stations was closed until 12:30 p.m. as the incident was investigated. Police are also looking for a woman who may have seen the gunman just prior to him firing the shots and told a cashier.
