DE Inmate Escapes on Christmas; 4 People Killed on Garden State Pkwy; Buena Won't Work With Referee

The Delaware Department of Correction announced on Wednesday that an inmate had escaped from a facility on Christmas Day. 31-year-old David Succarote climbed over the perimeter fence of the Plummer Community Corrections Center in Wilmington. He was serving time for a probation violation and second degree robbery. Succarote is described as a white man with green eyes and brown hair. He is approximately 5-foot-8 and weighs 170 pounds. He has tattoos on his left and right arms and chest. His last known address is in Middletown, DE.

Four people were killed in a car accident on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County, New Jersey early Wednesday morning. It happened around 2:50 a.m. in the southbound lanes, just south of Exit 81 in Berkeley Township. The four long-time friends were killed when they slammed into the back of a tanker truck. The driver has been identified as 21-year-old Kevin Quispe-Prieto of Beachwod. The passengers include 23-year-old Jimmy Quispe-Prieto, 24-year-old Victor Lugo, and 23-year-old U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Robert Ordenana, all of Lakewood. Ordenana had served nearly four years in the Marines as a rifleman. The driver of the truck was not seriously injured. New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

The Buena Regional Board of Education held an emergency meeting Wednesday night, 12/26, after a high school wrestler was forced to choose between cutting his hair or forfeiting his match last week. The incident has been shown on viral video. Community members came out to the meeting to express their concerns with how it was handled and to defend the student. Andrew Johnson, a African American wrestler, was told by referee Alan Maloney on the mat right before the match that his dreadlock hair was too long and against the rules. Johnson was forced to cut his hair or forfeit the match, which would hurt the team overall. There are rules about hair length and proper hair coverings, but those decisions should be brought up at weigh in. Buena Regional School District Superintendent David Cappuccio said that Maloney will not work with the school district again. The state is still investigating and the Interscholastic Athletic Association is not assigning Maloney to any matches in the meantime. Johnson will not compete in a match scheduled for Thursday, 12/27, but he plans on returning to the mat this season.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles has been named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after the team's 32-30 win over the Houston Texans this past Sunday. Foles completed 35 of 49 passes for 471 yards and 4 TD. He set an Eagles franchise record for most yards thrown in a game. This is the third time Foles has earned this honor.
