HS Senior Killed in Delaware Car Crash; $300k Cash Missing from NJ Highway; Wawa Opens Largest Store

A high school senior was killed Friday morning, 12/14, in a single-vehicle accident on the way to school in New Castle County, Delaware. The crash happened before 7:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Newport Road in Marshallton. 18-year-old Sarai Trujillo was driving to John Dickinson High School. Authorities believe speed was a factor. The teenager's car left the roadway and then hit a telephone pole and a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Red Clay School District says that Trujillo was an honors student and near the top of her class. Counselors were brought into school and will remain until next week for any students and teachers who may need to talk. Police are investigating the crash.

Authorities say that nearly $300,000 is still missing after cash spilled out of an armored truck and onto a New Jersey highway on Thursday morning, 12/13. It happened on Rt. 3 near MetLife Stadium. Two bags containing $140,000 and $370,000 fell out of a Brinks truck due to a mechanical issue on a rear door. The bags broke open and bills scattered across the roadway and swirled in the air. Motorists stopped in the middle of the highway and began grabbing cash like they were in a money booth. East Rutherford police say that Brinks personnel and helpful motorists collected $205,375 from the road. Five people later turned in $11,090 to authorities. That means $293,535 is still missing. East Rutherford police are asking anyone who has money connected to this incident to call 201-438-0165 to make arrangements to turn it in with no charges filed. They are also looking for anyone who has video to contact them. "It's theft of mislaid property," East Rutherford police Detective Lieutenant Mike Gianscaspro said. "So we're not looking to charge anybody, we're just looking to get the money back to Brinks."

Wawa's latest store opened with great fanfare on Friday morning, 12/14, in Old City, Philadelphia. The new flagship is located at the corner of 6th and Chestnut Streets near Independence Hall in the Public Ledger Building. It is also Wawa's largest store to date at 11,500 square-feet. The previous record holder at 9,200 square-feet opened exactly a year ago in downtown Washington, D.C. The new location has all of the usual Wawa favorites including hoagies, krimpets, coffee, and smoothies. There are two murals of "Philly Firsts" designed by local artists Willis Humphrey and Keir Johnston as part of the Mural Arts Program. There are also couches and cafÃ© seating plus free wifi. Get free coffee, any size, through Sunday.
