Wilkes-Barre Resident Fills Pot Hole w/ Christmas Tree; Rittenhouse Fire; $2k Spree on Stolen Purse

Residents in one Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, neighborhood have gotten fed up with a large pothole that keeps growing larger and larger without any intervention from the city. The traffic hazard became so big that one woman decided to 'plant' an artificial Christmas tree in the hole. Another man put a plastic Santa inside beside the tree. The festive display caught the attention of the city. The pot hole will be paved over sometime this week.

Three people were injured after fire broke out overnight at a luxury high-rise apartment building in Rittenhouse Square. It started just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, 12/11, on the 29th floor of The Dorchester at Rittenhouse Condominiums located at 226 W. Rittenhouse Square near 19th and Locust streets. Residents quickly evacuated the building after the alarms went off. Hundreds were displaced in the cold while firefighters battled the blaze. The nearby Rittenhouse Hotel opened its doors for those displaced. The all clear was given at 5 a.m. and residents were allowed to return to their apartments. Three people were taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. A firefighter was carried away on a stretcher, but appeared to be OK. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Police in Bucks County are looking for a woman who stole another woman's purse and then used her credit cards to go on an over $2,000 shopping spree. The suspect snatched the victim's purse from the Yardley Starbucks in the Oxford Shopping Center located at 1621 Big Oak Road back on November 18. She used the victim's cards at the Tullytown Walmart that same day spending $281.06. The suspect also used the cards at Dick Sporting Goods, Best Buy, Famous Footwear, and Joanne Fabric at the Court at Oxford Valley Shopping Center, as well as the Home Depot in Fairless Hills making $2,124.74 in purchases. Lower Makefield Police have released surveillance photos of the suspect.
