4 Shot in SW Philly Basement Identified; 3 Shot in Kensington; Flyers Fire GM Ron Hextall

Philadelphia Police have identified the four people found murdered in a Southwest Philadelphia home last week. The two men, a woman, and a teenage girl were shot execution-style in the head in the basement of a home. They were discovered around noon on Monday, November 19th on the 5100 Block of Malcolm Street near Baltimore Pike. The two men were cousins, 31-year-old William Taylor and 28-year-old Akeem Mattox, both of the 5100 block of Malcolm Street. The female victims were 20-year-old Tiyaniah Rakele Hopkins and 17-year-old Yaleah Hall, both of the 2600 block of North 9th Street. A relative called police to do a welfare check. Police Commissioner Richard Ross said, "All four of these individuals were executed. There are no ifs, ands or buts about it." There were no signs of a struggle. A neighbor heard bangs the night before, but since the house is under renovation he didn't think any thing of it. So far no arrests have been made.

Three people were critically injured in a shooting in Kensington on Monday morning, 11/26. It happened just after 10 a.m. in the 2800 block of North Water Street. A 40-year-old man was shot in the upper-left calf, a 37-year-old man was shot once in each leg, and another male was shot once in the chest and twice in the left arm. All three were taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. Police say that one group opened fire on another group. Police do not have a motive. No arrests have been made.

â€ªThe Philadelphia Flyers have fired Ron Hextall. The team announced on Monday that the Executive Vice President and General Manager has been relieved of duties citing philosophical differences. Hextall is in his fifth season as GM. He was goalie for the Flyers for 11 seaons in the late 80s and 90s.
