Dozens of Car Windows Smashed at Temple; Man Stabbed in Basement; Deptford Police Shooting Decision

Philadelphia Police are investigating after dozens of cars were broken into overnight on Temple University's campus in North Philadelphia. Students and others woke up to find broken glass in the streets after thieves had smashed the windows of 42 cars and even a food truck. Many of the vehicles had been tossed as thieves looked for valuables. The area affected ranged from Diamond to Oxford Streets and from 9th to 11th Streets. They were broken into around 4 a.m. Temple University and police are looking at surveillance video. They have identified three individuals that may be responsible.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a 31-year-old man was found stabbed in his basement apartment in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday, 11/1. It happened just before 5:30 p.m on the 10000 block of Clark Street in Somerton. He was found by his landlord and a friend lying on the bathroom floor bleeding profusely. There was a knife next to him. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 5:35 p.m. The man was stabbed multiple times in the chest and torso as well as both of his wrists. Police say that some wounds are consistent with suicide, but others are consistent with homicide. They are investigating the case as a possible homicide.

A grand jury has declined to indict a New Jersey police officer who shot and killed a shoplifting suspect who tried to run him over as she fled the scene. The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office made the announcement on Thursday. On June 9th, Deptford Police Sgt. Kevin Clements shot and killed 36-year-old LaShanda Anderson of Philadelphia. Officers responded to a shoplifting at the Marshalls at 1800 Clements Bridge Road in Deptford Township. They encountered three suspects in the parking lot and ordered them to stop. Two of them got into an SUV with Anderson driving. The SUV struck one officer and was accelerating towards Sgt. Clements when he drew his weapon and fired three times. Anderson was hit twice and was pronounced dead at the scene. Clements had been put on administrative leave. He is a 19-year veteran of the force.
