Upper Darby Lockdown/Dismissal After Toy Gun; NJ Real Estate Agent Shot in Car; Kensington Cleanup

Upper Darby High School in Delaware County was dismissed early after previously being placed on lockdown following a gun scare on Thursday morning, 11/1. It started around 8 a.m. when a staffer saw a realistic gun drop out of a student's back pack in a crowded hallway. The student quickly picked it back up. A lockdown was called as Upper Darby police responded and searched the school. They identified the student in the hall using the school's cameras. The 16-year-old boy was found in his classroom. The gun turned out to be a plastic toy pellet gun. He was taken into custody and will face charges. The lockdown was lifted at 9:23 a.m. The school decided to dismiss students early starting at 11 a.m. because of the amount of people that arrived on campus looking for their children.

A New Jersey real estate agent was found shot inside a car in the city's Holmesburg neighborhood on Wednesday morning, 10/31. 54-year-old Orlando Martinez from Westville, Gloucester County, was found on the 4500 block of Oakmont Street in Philadelphia around 11 a.m. He was parked outside of a home he was showing to prospective buyers. His wife had reported him missing when he did not come home on Tuesday night. A passerby saw him on Wednesday. Emergency responders say he was barely alive when they rushed him to Aria-Torresdale Hospital. He died a short time later. Police say he was shot while inside the car and that robbery was not the motive. Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia police.

City officials and volunteers gathered in Kensington on Thursday, 11/1, for the start of massive cleanup project along Kensington Avenue. The cleanup is part of the city's 'Philadelphia Resilience Project,' a city-wide effort to combat heroin abuse. The cleanup efforts include clearing the streets of trash and litter, removing drug paraphernalia and used needles, and cleaning storm drains. L+I is inspecting properties and sealing/painting vacant ones. The cleanup runs from Allegheny to Lehigh.
