Mark D'Amico Arrested on Traffic Warrants; MontCo Doctors Illegally Prescribing; Olney Hit-and-Run

The man now accused of taking money from a GoFundMe fundraiser he set up with his girlfriend to benefit a homeless man was arrested this week on an outstanding traffic warrant. 39-year-old Mark D'Amico of Florence, NJ, was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. on Monday night and placed in the Burlington County jail. He has since been released on $500 bail. In October 2017, he was cited for allegedly driving with a suspended license, failing to turn in his license while suspended, and for driving a vehicle with a broken tail lamp. He failed to appear at court and was arrested in May 2018. He posted bail and failed to appear in court again in July triggering this warrant. D'Amico and his girlfriend Kate McClure are under investigation after funds from a $400,000 online fundraiser have gone unaccounted for in less than a year. The couple set up the fundraiser to help homeless Philadelphia man John Bobbitt after he helped McClure last fall when she was stranded on the highway. Earlier this month, Bobbitt sued the couple claiming they mismanaged the funds suspecting they spent it on themselves. The couple's home has been searched by the Burlington County prosecutor and their lawyer, Ernest Badway, even suspects they will be indicted.

Montgomery County officials along with federal Drug Enforcement Agency officers announced the arrests of four doctors for illegally overprescribing narcotics. 48-year-old Lawrence I. Miller who has an office in Lansdale and lives in Warminster was arrested on Wednesday, 9/12. 56-year-old Joseph F. Cipriano with a medical office out of his home in Norristown; 61-year-old Brian C. Keeley with a medical office in Ambler and lives in Philadelphia; and 59-year-old Joseph M. Rybicki with a medical office in Lower Moreland Township and lives in Haddonfield, NJ were previously arrested in February, May, and July. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said, "These doctors were engaged in criminal activity making them no better than the dealer on the street corner." Steele said that nine of Miller's patients died of overdoses as a result of a combination of prescriptions and street drugs. Cipriano is accused of trading prescriptions "in exchange for nude photographs, videos or sexual favors." Steele says they are actively investigating other physicians.

Philadelphia Police have found the vehicle believed to be involved in a hit-and-run that injured a 9-year-old girl on her bike. It was found on the 5100 block of Hutchinson Street on Tuesday, 9/11, around 6:30 p.m. after a tip was called in. The 51-year-old female owner of the car has contacted police. She lives in the area where the accident happened, but police are still trying to determine who was behind the wheel at the time. It happened around 7:30 pm Monday, 9/10, on the 200 block of Lindley Avenue in Olney. 9-year-old Fatima Hunter was riding her bike when she was struck by a gold Cadillac SRX. The incident was captured on surveillance video (see below). After the collision, the bicycle stuck to the car for at least a half block before falling off. Philadelphia Police Capt. Mark Overwise said, "I have no doubt that after the collision, the driver knew they hit something, possibly seeing the bicycle clinging to their vehicle for half a block and should have stopped." Fatima was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition.
