Remains of Abducted Man Found; Woman Strangled in Ardmore; Coatesville 'Project Playground'

Philadelphia Police located the remains of the son of a late state representative who had been abducted nearly 12 years ago. Police got a tip this week about the remains and discovered them in a vacant lot at Third and Allegheny in North Philadelphia. Dental records matched them to Shamari Taylor, the son of the late State Representative Jon Myers. On August 26th, 2006, 10 masked men abducted him and his girlfriend on the 7600 block of Woodbine in Overbrook Park. She got away, but he was never seen again. The next day, two men broke into his mother's home on the 5400 Block of Wyalusing Avenue and shot his mother and sister in the head. They both survived. A few days later, his cousin was raped and robbed. No one has been convicted in any of these crimes. "Thereâ€™s no such thing as a bad tip, a wasted tip, or an outdated tip. It doesnâ€™t matter when." said Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew.

The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office is investigating after a woman was found strangled to death inside her Ardmore apartment on Wednesday night, 8/22. Lower Merion Police were called out to the apartment on the 100 block of Sibley Avenue to perform a welfare check around 9:15 p.m. and discovered the woman in the bedroom. The Montgomery County Coroner's Office determined her cause of death was strangulation and the manner of death was homicide. The woman's identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. Police say there shouldn't be any concern for area residents. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan was in Coatesville talking about the town's efforts this summer to reduce crime and violence. "Project Playground" focused on drug dealing (cocaine, heroin, marijuana) and dealers and relied on intelligence gathered from a combination of aggressive patrolling, undercover surveillance, and civilian tipsters. In the end, they arrested 40 suspects and recovered 18 guns, 1,000s of dollars, and took a variety of drugs off the streets. There have also been 0 homicides. The program cost $300,000 to run.
