Demi Lovato Atlantic City Concert Canceled; Attack at Darby Library; EPA Forum in Horsham, Montco

Pop star Demi Lovato's concert on the beach in Atlantic City for Thursday, 7/26, has been canceled after the singer was hospitalized from a reported overdose on Tuesday night at her home in Los Angeles. "Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support," Lovato's representative said in a statement Tuesday evening. "Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now." 25-year-old Lovato has been open about her struggles with addiction and had celebrated six years of sobriety this spring. However, she recently relapsed and her latest song "Sober" is an apology for letting people down.

Officials for the Atlantic City BeachFest Concert Series have decided on several options for those with tickets to Thursday's concert. a) There will still be a concert on Thurs. 7/26. It will be a free concert for anybody featuring Lauv (who was scheduled to open for Lovato) and newly booked Cheat Codes. b1) You can use your Lovato ticket to get into The Chainsmokers concert on Sunday, 7/29, which is also part of the Atlantic City BeachFest Concert Series. or b2) You can seek a refund for your Lovato tickets at your point of purchase.

Police in Darby Borough are looking for a suspect wanted for a violent theft and assault earlier this month at the library. They have identified the suspect as 40-year-old Terrell Carter, aka Lanell McEachin. He is homeless and transient and in known to frequent libraries all over the area. He frequently uses SEPTA. The incident in question happened on July 11 at the Darby Free Library. Carter attacked a 60-year-old librarian before stealing a 5-gallon jug of change full of donations. He grabbed the woman and threw her to the ground before dragging her down steps and out the door. She suffered multiple fractures incuding two fractured vertebrae. Investigators believe he targets the elderly and uses libraries to fuel an online gambling addiction. If you see him, call 911. There is a reward being offered.

The EPA held an open forum on Wednesday, 7/25, in Montgomery County to address ongoing concerns of contaminated ground water in communities around the former Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove. Residents in Upper Dublin Township are concerned their tap water is contaminated with PFAS, or Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances. PFAS were contained in fire-fighting agents used on the military bases and made their way into the water tables. The EPA says that PFAS are "very persistent in the environment and in the human body." In other words, they don't break down after ingestion and stay in your body causing problems. Other nearby towns such as Horsham, Warminster, and Warrington have had to spend millions to deal with problems with their water after the chemicals were discovered.
