Bill Cosby 'Sexually Violent Predator'; Water Damage Caused Hamilton Collapse; NJ Pauses Pot Cases

The Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board has determined that Bill Cosby should be considered a sexually violent predator. The Montgomery County District Attorney's office has requested a hearing on the report so a judge can decide if Cosby will be classified as a sexually violent predator. The 81-year-old was convicted on April 26th on sexual assault charges. He is already required to register as an offender, but this classification increases treatment in prison and heightens notifications of the public. Cosby is scheduled to be sentenced of September 24.

Officials from Hamilton Township's Division of Engineering released a report related to the collapse of a home that killed one and injured two others. 38-year-old Tika Justice was killed and her two daughters, ages 16 and 20, were injured when their home on the 1800 block of South Broad Street collapsed on Monday morning, 7/23. "We believe chronic, long-term water penetration through the east side exterior wall led to the extensive deterioration," the report read. "We speculate that this disintegrating block gave way yesterday morning, leading to several floor joists slipping off their supports and directly resulting in the catastrophic collapse of the building." The engineers determined that the building fell because several old concrete blocks in the basement of the house had been exposed to moisture over a long period of time making them brittle and crumbling.

New Jersey attorney general's office announced an immediate adjournment of all marijuana cases in municipal courts statewide until at least September. Attorney General Gurbir Grewal sent a letter to all municipal prosecutors in the state asking them to seek adjournment until September 4th or later in any case "involving a marijuana-related offense pending in municipal court." Grewal plans to issue a statewide directive next month on the "appropriate use of prosecutorial discretion" in marijuana-related offenses. Gov. Phil Murphy favors legalization of recreational marijuana in New Jersey. Last month, he endorsed federal legislation that would prevent the federal government from enforcing drug laws in states that have legalized the drug.
