Video of Cottman Ave. Road Rage Shooting; Delco Catholic School Fire; Temple Frat President Hearing

Philadelphia Police have released surveillance video of a road rage shooting in Northeast Philadelphia earlier this month. It happened around 8:30 p.m. on July 3rd on the 2600 block of Cottman Ave. near the Roosevelt Mall. The victim is a 22-year-old male. It started when he was getting ready to turn on to Cottman Ave. The suspect, driving a dark-colored sedan, asked to get in front. The victim said there wasn't enough room and then the light changed. Once on Cottman, the suspect pulled up beside the victim, exchanged some words, and opened fire multiples times. The victim was hit once in the right side of the abdomen. The suspect sped off and the victim stayed in his vehicle in the lane until a passerby called police. He was taken to Einstein Hospital, where he was in critical condition. The victim says that there was a woman in the passenger seat of the other car saying, 'Let him go, let him go.' There were also two young girls in the back around ages 8-10. The suspect's car is described as a dark green 1998-2002 Toyota Corolla. The victim describes the suspect as a Hispanic male in his mid-30s, with an average build and a full beard. The woman in the car is described as a Hispanic female in her mid-30s, small to medium build, with long black hair. A massive 3-alarm fire destroyed a Catholic elementary school overnight in Delaware County. The fire broke out around 11 p.m. at Our Lady of Angels Regional School on the grounds of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish located on the 2100 block of Franklin Avenue in Morton, PA. Around 100 firefighters from almost 2 dozen crews were on scene to fight the blaze. 40 neighbors and 8 nuns were evacuated as a precaution. Heavy smoke and flames were pouring from the roof of the building that contained mainly classrooms. It took hours for firefighters to bring it under control. No one was injured and the church was not damaged. Around 400 students from pre-k to 8th grade attend Our Lady of Angels. Archdiocesan of Philadelphia spokesman Ken Gavin said in a statement, "The fire which severely damaged Our Lady of Angels School in Morton (OLA) last night is a moment of deep sadness for parish and school families as well as the Catholic community at large in the region." He said that the Archdiocese "will provide every mode of support possible." Furthermore, he reassured that "OLA school operations are guaranteed to start on time in September. Students and teachers will utilize space at Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, Delaware County. Further developments and logistical details pertaining to OLA operations are being determined and will be communicated to parish and school families as soon as possible."



The former president of a Temple University fraternity appeared in Philadelphia court on Thursday for a preliminary hearing. 21-year-old Ari Goldstein is accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in his bedroom at the now suspended Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house on February 25th. His accuser took the stand today and described the incident in front of a packed courtroom. Goldstein was ordered to stand trial. He is charged with attempted rape, intimidation, attempted sexual assault, indecent assault, simple assault, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment. His lawyer, Perry de Marco Sr., spoke with confidence outside the court room. "He’s definitely going to prepare for trial and it’s going to be a hell of a trial because I’ll tell you what this is - this is ‘Me Too’ gone wild. That’s what it is. I guarantee it," said de Marco. "If I don’t show you that when this trial is over, I’ll stand on my head in the middle of Filbert Street."
