The daughter of a mother and grandmother who were found dead in a Ventnor high rise condominium last weekend has been arrested for their murders. 41-year-old Heather Barbera of Ventnor was arrested on Wednesday, 7/11, in New York City. She is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The bodies of 87-year-old Elaine Rosen and 67-year-old Michelle Gordon were found around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, 7/8, at the Vassar Square Condominiums at 4800 Boardwalk. The medical examiner ruled their death a homicide from multiple blunt force injuries. Barbera had taken a bus to New York City soon after the killing. She is in custody of the NYPD and awaits extradition back to New Jersey. Authorities have not released a motive.

A massive 4-alarm fire broke out Tuesday night, 7/10, in Kensington at a junkyard. It started around 8 p.m. at East Somerset and Tulip streets. Fire crews were monitoring the scrap yard for hotspots well into Wednesday morning. One firefighter was injured after suffering a fall. He was taken to Temple University Hospital. BJM Holdings, which owns the yard, has been cited numerous times by the Department of Licenses and Inspections for violations and has been in court several times this year to force them to comply. The Clean Air Council warns that the fire released hazardous materials like lead and arsenic into the air. David Feinberg, the owner of BJM Holdings, says he is working to fix the violations. He believes the fire was started by heroin addicts who often steal scrap metal from the yard.

A man wanted on warrants died after jumping into the Wissahickon Creek to evade police after a traffic stop Wednesday evening, 7/11. It happened at 7 p.m. on the Lincoln Drive off-ramp to Ridge Avenue. The 29-year-old driver was behind the wheel of a commercial tree trimming truck, which is not allowed on the ramp. The driver did not have a license or ID but did give the officer a name. The officer went back to his patrol car to run the name, which came back as having warrants in New Jersey for eluding police and resisting arrest. As the officer approached the truck a second time, the man got out and fled. He jumped into the Wissahickon Creek and did not resurface. Philadelphia Police Marine Unit divers located the man's body in 12 feet of water. He was pulled out of the water and pronounced dead at the scene at 8:21 p.m. An autopsy will determine an exact cause of death.
