PA Supreme Court Denies Meek Mill New Judge; New Castle Walmart Robbery; NJ Gov Signs Sports Betting

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court won't remove the judge from Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill's case. At a hearing on Tuesday, 6/12, three of the justices denied his request to remove Judge Genece Brinkley from his long running case and three of the justices supported it. Justice David Wecht did say that Mill could bring the matter up again at a hearing next Monday, 6/18, when he appears before Brinkley herself. Mill was sentenced in November 2017 to 2-4 years in prison after violating probation stemming from a 2008 drug and gun conviction. He spent five months in jail until the Supreme Court granted him bail. He is now appealing the sentence for the probation violation and seeking a new trial after questions arose related to the testimony of the arresting officer in the original trial.

A man waiting to pickup his wife outside of a Walmart in New Castle, Delaware, confronted two armed suspects as they robbed the store. It happened just after midnight on Tuesday, 6/12, on the 100 block of Wilton Boulevard. A masked male suspect entered the store with a gun. He went to a register, fired the gun into the ceiling, and demanded money. A female suspect then entered the store. When an employee came out of the locked office to check on the commotion, the female suspect forced her way in with a weapon and also demanded money. Ron Eads had been waiting outside in his vehicle for his wife when he heard the gun shot. He grabbed a breaker bar from his truck and ran inside and confronted the male suspect. The suspect fired a shot at Eads and then pair fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The first suspect is a black male, approximately 5' 8" tall with an average build. He was wearing dark clothing with his face covered and had a handgun. The second suspect is a black female, approximately 5' 5" tall with an average build. She wore dark clothing and was armed with an unknown weapon. If you have any information in this incident, call Delaware crime stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. No one was injured.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed the bill on Monday, 6/11, that will allow sports betting at Atlantic City casinos and racetracks in the state. The state Assembly and Senate passed the legislation last week. New Jersey had led the way in a Supreme Court case last month which struck down a federal ban on sports betting nationwide. New Jersey is the second state to clear the way for sports betting since the ruling. Delaware was the first state. "Today, we're finally making the dream of legalized sports betting a reality for New Jersey,â€ Murphy said in a statement. "I'm thrilled to sign Assembly Bill 4111 because it means that our casinos in Atlantic City and our racetracks throughout our state can attract new business and new fans, boosting their own long-term financial prospects. This is the right move for New Jersey and it will strengthen our economy.â€

One of five people shot and wounded when gunmen opened fire into a crowd of people Saturday night has died. 21-year-old Kameron Gilfillian succumbed to his injuries on Monday. It happened around 11 p.m. Saturday, 6/9, on the 2200 block of 20th Street near Susquehanna. A group of people was hanging outside when shots rang out from across the street. They found 41 shell casings on the ground. The four men shot ranged from 21-48. One remains in critical condition. A 5-year-old boy was also struck in the leg. He is in stable condition. Police are looking for 4-5 suspects.
