Lenny Dykstra Says Uber Kidnapped Him; Philly Police Update Trespass Policy; $1M Burglary Ring Bust

Former Phillies center fielder Lenny Dykstra is claiming that an Uber driver kidnapped him in an incident last month in New Jersey that led to multiple charges against the MLB star. It happened around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23rd, in Linden, NJ. After the 47-year-old Uber driver picked up 55-year-old Dykstra, the driver said Lenny requested a change in destination which was refused. Dykstra's lawyer said his client told the driver "he's going the wrong way" and asked to take a different route. The driver told police that Dykstra got irate and threatened to kill him with a gun. Dykstra denies threatening the driver and says he feared for his life after the driver wouldn't let him out, engaged the child locks, and sped up. No gun was found. The driver went to the Linden Police Department and left Dykstra in the car out front. Dykstra claims to have dialed 911 during the ride. He was charged with making terroristic threats and drug offenses. Police found cocaine, MDMA and marijuana. Dykstra's lawyers have filed a complaint against the driver for false imprisonment.

The Philadelphia Police Department has updated and clarified its policy on how to confront and when to arrest people accused of trespassing on private property. This policy change comes almost two months after two back men were arrested while waiting for a colleague at the Starbucks in Rittenhouse Square. Officers must first de-escalate and mediate a disturbance between a property owner and accused offender. Before an officer arrests someone, that person must understand he or she is not allowed on the property. The officer also must witness the person refusing to leave. The policy leaves officers, with guidance from supervisors, more discretion in situations.

Two men have been charged for running a burglary ring that brought in around $1 million in stolen goods over the past year. 50-year-old Anthony McDaniels of Philadelphia and 57-year-old Leroy Boose of Willingboro, New Jersey, are accused of committing more than 50 burglaries between April 2017 and February 2018 in Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Delaware counties. They stole jewelry, electronics, antiques, artwork, instruments, and more. Over 1000 items were taken. Most of the burglaries happened in Cheltenham, Abington, Lower Merion Township, and Philadelphia. They were caught red-handed in Lower Merion Township on February 10 during a burglary. They targeted homes without lights on and no cars in the driveway. Boose is being held on $3 million cash bail, while McDaniels is being held on $2.75 million cash bail.
