Terrell Owens Snubs NFL Hall of Fame; PennDOT $8M I-76 Improvement Plan; NJ Approves Sports Betting

Terrell Owens announced that he will not attend the induction ceremony for the Pro Football Hall of Fame this August in Canton, OH. The All-Pro wide receiver was elected to the hall this February in his third year of eligibility. "While I am incredibly appreciative of this opportunity, I have made the decision to publicly decline my invitation to attend the induction ceremony in Canton," he said in a statement. "After visiting Canton earlier this year, I came to the realization that I wish to celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life, elsewhere. At a later date, I will announce where and when I will celebrate my induction." Owens played two colorful seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles between 2004-05 including Super Bowl XXXIX against the Patriots.

I am so grateful for all of the support my family, friends, and certainly my fans, have shown me throughout my entire career in the National Football League. When it was announced that I was going to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the response received from my fans was overwhelming, and I am truly humbled. I am honored to be included among this group of fellow inducted individuals.

While I am incredibly appreciative of this opportunity, I have made the decision to publicly decline my invitation to attend the induction ceremony in Canton. I have already shared this information with the Hall. After visiting Canton earlier this year, I came to the realization that I wish to celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life, elsewhere. I would also like to thank the San Francisco 49ers, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys, the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals for the time I was granted with each organization. I am thankful for the relationships forged and the lessons learned while part of each team.

I wish to congratulate all past, current and future inductees. It is quite an honor to be part of such elite company. This honor is something that I will cherish forever.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced an $8 million plan to improve travel conditions on the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) between King of Prussia and Philadelphia. The first phase of project includes the installation of digital speed limit signs that can be changed depending on road conditions, traffic, and weather. They will also be installing meters to ramps and overhead signs to open/close lanes. Secondary arterials such as Rt. 23 and Ridge Pike will have traffic signals controlled by a regional traffic manager. There will also be upgrades to the Schuylkill River Trail. Once this infrastructure is in place, the four-year plan is ultimately to convert the shoulders of the highway for use as an extra lane for times of peak traffic. The New Jersey Legislature gave final approval to a bill that legalizes sports betting in the state. Sports betting will be available at Atlantic City casinos and state racetracks for patrons 21 or older. Internet betting will also be available in 30 days. The Assembly first approved the bill followed by the Senate on Thursday afternoon, 6/7. The bill nows goes to the desk of Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy. Murphy has not said when he plans to sign the bill, and his office has said the bill will get a careful review. Lawmakers did strip out language from the bill that would have prohibited venues from opening sports books before the governor signs. Monmouth Park racetrack in North Jersey and the Borgata casino in Atlantic City are ready to open as soon as they get the word. Statements from both did not make it clear when they would start taking bets, but they did sound like they are waiting on the governor for now. Other casinos and racetracks will be following suit. New Jersey led the effort all the way to the Supreme Court to open up sports betting nationwide.
