Woman Who Drowned In Pennypack ID'd; Building Collapse Kills Man; Student Stabbed at Upper Darby HS

The 30-year-old woman who fell into Pennypack Creek and drowned in Northeast Philadelphia on Saturday night, 6/2, has been identified. Rebecca Bunting and her boyfriend were taking photographs near Lexington and Brous Avenues around 6 p.m. They were in a storm drain by Roosevelt Boulevard when flash flooding washed them both into the creek. Her boyfriend was able to pull himself out, but she did not resurface. 911 was called. The marine unit searched the water along with dive teams and helicopters, but the deep murky water hampered efforts on Saturday night. She was found around 10:45 a.m. Sunday, 6/3, near the Frankford Avenue Bridge. Bunting was known as an avid photographer (https://www.instagram.com/_bword/) and bartender at Miller's Ale House in South Philadelphia. Her family has asked for privacy.

A worker was killed when a row home partially collapsed in the Brewerytown section of Philadelphia Monday morning, 6/4. It happened at Jefferson and N. Bailey Streets around 10:50 a.m. The building was being demolished. Two contractors were inside when the rear of the building collapsed. One worker was able to escape unharmed. The other worker, a 60-year-old man, was trapped under the rubble. Rescue crews worked to free the man, but he died shortly after being pulled out and was pronounced at the scene. No firefighters or police were hurt. The building is still unstable. The demolition crews have stopped working. Licenses and Inspections are on the scene. There will be an investigation in to the cause of the collapse.

A student was stabbed multiple times inside Upper Darby High School this morning. It happened shortly before dismissal in a stairway. The 15-year-old freshman student was taken to Lankenau Hospital. No suspect has been arrested, but it was most likely another student. Upper Darby police are investigating the incident.

UPDATE: A 14-year-old student was taken into custody by police.

Good afternoon, Upper Darby School District Families.

I am writing this afternoon to report that there was an incident at the high school today that is currently under police investigation. A student was stabbed in a stairwell shortly before dismissal. The student suffered multiple stab wounds and is currently being treated at the hospital, but his condition is unknown at this time. The Upper Darby Police Department is handling this criminal case and the district is working with the police department during their investigation. When updates become available, I will share them with our community.

I am sorry to have to deliver such difficult news today and know that you will all join me in keeping our injured student in your thoughts and prayers.
