Hacked Sign on I95 in Delco; Man Killed on Bike in Spring Garden; Racist Flyers in Hatboro

A roadside digital traffic sign was hacked on Sunday, 5/13, twice, to display a vulgar message. The sign is located on I-95 south in Delaware County near the Ridley Park exit. It belongs to one of PennDOT's contractors and is being used for a road project. Motorists first noticed the message on Sunday morning and notified police. It read "DELCO SUCK COCK JS DC." Workers came out around 10 a.m. and fixed the sign, but the hackers simply reprogrammed it again. This time workers physically moved the sign so it faced the sound wall and couldn't been seen by drivers. PennDOT is now investigating how this sign could be hacked, who did it, and how it can be prevented.

UPDATE: correction. The sign actually read. "DELCO SUCK DICK JS DC."

Philadelphia Police have identified a man who was struck and killed while riding his bike on Spring Garden Street on Saturday, 5/12. 34-year-old Pablo Avendano was traveling eastbound on Spring Garden at 10th Street around 7:40 p.m. He was struck by a Mitsubishi SUV also going eastbound. First, Avendano was knocked off the bicycle and then run over. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene. No charges have been filed. Avendano was out delivering food, working for the app Caviar. The app allows you to order food from participating local restaurants. They employ their own delivery staff. This incident has brought up more concerns over protected bikes lanes along Spring Garden street.

Residents in Hatboro, Montgomery County, discovered racist flyers in their driveways over the weekend. On Saturday morning, people found the messages attached to baggies filled with heart candies. The flyers were placed some time overnight and appear to be from a North Carolina group, Loyal White Knights. The group is affiliated with the KKK. The Borough of Hatboro posted on Facebook saying that something similar had recently happened in neighboring Upper Moreland and Upper Dublin. See the flyer below.
