Pennsylvania Republican Congressman Pat Meehan, who settled a sexual harassment complaint by a former aide using taxpayer money, has resigned from Congress today Friday, 4/27. Meehan denies any wrongdoing and believes he would have been exonerated, but did not want to put his staff through an investigation. He also said that he would repay $39,000 to the U.S. Treasury for the "severance payment" made from his office account to the staffer when she left her position. Meehan previously said he would not seek reelection. The 62-year-old married father of three called the younger woman a "soul mate." She had filed a complaint with the Office of Compliance last year when the congressman became upset when he found out she had begun to date another man and she did not reciprocate his romantic interest. Temple University in Philadelphia announced on Friday, 4/27, that it has rescinded Bill Cosby's honorary degree. Cosby was convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault yesterday in Norristown, Montgomery County. He was accused of drugging and assaulting a former Temple employee in his Cheltenham home in 2004. Cosby earned his undergrad degree at the university and served on its Board of Trustees from 1982 to 2014. Yesterday, Carnegie Mellon University, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, and Wesleyan University all said they would revoke degrees. Over 20 other schools have taken away their honorary degrees. Boston College said "as a matter of policy, we do not rescind honorary degrees."
