Abington Senior High School in Montgomery County will not be named after a wealthy donor following a public outcry and online petition this past week. Billionaire alumnus Stephen Schwarzman donated $25 million to the school. Earlier this week, the school district announced plans to change the name of the school to Abington Schwarzman High School after the Blackstone Group CEO. That decision was met with some backlash from the community, with over 1,300 signing an online petition. On Saturday, Abington School District Superintendent Amy Sichel announced the district has reversed its decision to rename the high school in a letter.

"I have spoken to our donor’s representatives regarding the concerns raised by a minority in the community around the change of our school name," Sichel wrote to parents and alumni. "The purpose of this generous gift – the largest ever to a U.S. public high school in history – is to help Abington High School be the best it can be and to undertake a critical renovation that will dramatically improve the student experience as well as student preparedness. The donor’s representatives conveyed that nothing should detract from our important mission and agree that the school’s name should remain as is," she wrote.

Bristol Township Police are investigating the "vicious assault" of a teenage girl in Croydon on Friday night. The parents of a 14-year-old girl arrived home on 400 block of Sycamore Avenue in Croydon late on Friday to find their daughter stabbed multiple times and shot once in the head. She was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital where she remains in extremely critical condition. The girl's 19-year-old male cousin was missing from the home. He was later found on State Road in Bensalem suffering from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. He was taken to Jefferson Hospital where he is being guarded by police. Detectives are waiting to interview him. If you have any information or may have any surveillance video from the neighborhood, contact Bristol Township Police.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri announced the arrest of a Trenton man for the murder of man found tied up near a canal in Hamilton Township last weekend. 29-year-old Rufus Thompson was arrested this morning at a friend's house by county homicide investigators and federal marshals. He is charged with murder, felony murder, robbery, kidnapping, and weapons offenses. Last weekend, 20-year-old Danny Diaz-Delgado of Trenton was found face down with his hands tied behind his back at Sixth Avenue and Assunpink Boulevard. He had been shot numerous times.
