SEPTA Train Hits Pole; Proposed Temple Stadium Plan; Cosby Judge Stays On Trial

A train on SEPTA's high-speed line reportedly crashed into a pole near Villanova on Thursday evening. SEPTA officials stated that one of the cars on a northbound train struck a pole on the 2100 block of County Line Road near the County Line Station at around 5:30 pm. Service was suspended for around three hours while crews cleaned up and investigated the crash. During the train suspension the Norristown high-speed line trains only operated between 69th Street Station and Bryn Mawr Station. Shuttle buses were operating between Bryn Mawr Station and Norristown Transportation Center. So far there is no word of any injuries at this time.

Temple has released their tentative plan for a new 35,000-seat, multi-purpose stadium that may impact the surrounding North Philadelphia neighborhood. Officials say that the facility would be built 25 feet below the sidewalk level on two sides to avoid eclipsing the tops of neighboring row homes. The school stated, however, they will not be purchasing any homes to make way for the stadium and as far as parking goes, the school plans on using their 5,000 on campus spots that should take care of a sold out crowd.

Bill Cosby was in court again on Thursday just before his sexual assault retrial. Cosby's lawyers wanted Judge Steven O'Neil to leave the case due to possible bias. They say that since O'Neil's wife is a leader of a team that "advocates for sexual assault victims" that he would have a bias against Cosby. O'Neil stated that he will not step aside, saying that the defense's motion was "untimely" and that he and his wife are separate individuals. The defense team also stated that O'Neil's wife made a donation towards a women's group that was planning to protest outside of the trial. O'Neil stated this was false and brought documentation showing the donation was made by the University of Pennsylvania's Counseling and Psychological Services Department, where O'Neil works. The donation was not given to the specific group that is planning the protest. Pretrial motions are set to continue on Friday, Jury selection is set to begin on Monday and opening statements are set for April 9th.
