Missing Allentown Teen Found in Mexico; Fire at Yard's Brewery; Councilwoman Proposes 4am Last Call

The 16-year-old Allentown teenager that went missing earlier this month with a 45-year-old man has been found safe in Mexico. Amy Yu and Kevin Esterly were located by authorities on Saturday in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Yu is said to be unharmed and in good health. Esterly was placed in custody. The pair disappeared on March 5th. Esterly signed her out of school posing as her stepfather. They eventually took a flight from Dallas to Mexico. Homeland Security Investigations, Policia Federal Transnational Criminal Investigative Unit and the United States Marshals Service helped locate the pair. They will be taken back to Miami, FL, by Homeland Security and the US Marshals. Arrangements will be made to reunite Yu with her family in Allentown. Esterly will be turned over to the Miami Police Department and await extradition to Allentown. Esterly will be charged with a felony charge of custodial interference. There is no timetable on their return.

Philadelphia firefighters responded to an early morning fire at Yard's Brewery in the city's Spring Garden neighborhood on Saturday. The fire started around 4 a.m. in the loading dock area of the building at 5th and Callowhill Streets. It spread into the back portion of the building before firefighters were able to bring it under control within an hour. Officials say it began as a dumpster fire and the arson task force is investigating. It is being treated as suspicious. The damage was contained to the loading dock and rear of the building and did not affect the tap room. St. Patrick's Day was an otherwise busy day at the brewery with many patrons enjoying the craft brews. There was even a wedding being held at the facility. This is Yard's new facility which opened in November 2017.

A Philadelphia city councilwoman has proposed extending last call as a way to raise funds for the school district. By state law, all bars/clubs in Philadelphia now close at 2 a.m. Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown introduced a bill that would allow City Council to create "Extended Hour Zones." Establishments in these zones could get permits to stay open until 4 a.m. Theoretically, the city would get revenue from the additional liquor tax. The state would have to grant the city authority to hand out these permits. Brown does not know how much revenue it may generate. Detractors wonder if it worth having people out later and drinking more.
