Pennsylvania Supreme Court Releases Map; Old City Fire Aftermath; More Eagles Parade Vandals Video

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court released its own congressional redistricting map this afternoon (see map below). Back in January, the Democratic-majority court ruled that the state's 18-district map in use since 2011 was unconstitutionally gerrymandered and partisan in Republican favor and ordered a new map be drawn. Legislative leaders sent a new map to Governor Tom Wolf last Monday, who in turn sent a map of his own to the court on Friday. This map created by the court will be used in the May 15th primary. It won't affect a March special election in the 18th District. The map is significantly different than others previously submitted, including completely renumbering the districts. Republicans are expected to challenge the map, arguing that it is the job of lawmakers to set the state's districts not the courts. Philadelphia city officials are concerned that an early morning fire that ripped through a building in Old City on Sunday has left the structure unsound. It happened around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday near 3rd and Chestnut Street. Over 100 people were evacuated from apartments and an adjacent hotel. ATF officials have been investigating the fire and the Department of Licenses and Inspections expressed concerns the building may collapse. A collapse zone has been set up in the area just in case. The building owner has been asked to take down the fire escape from the front of the building to alleviate weight on the weakened structure. David Perri, commissioner of L+I, says it is probably a "total loss" but they will try to save the historic facade.

Philadelphia Police have released a new video showing several people vandalizing a SEPTA bus stop during the Eagles Super Bowl parade earlier this month. It happened on Thursday, February 8th at 15th and JFK Boulevard. A group of fans climbed on top of the bus shelter causing the roof to collapse. If you have any information call Central Detective Division at 215-686-3047/3048.
