Women's March of Philadelphia; Rep. Pat Meehan Allegations; Multiple Stabbings in Philadelphia

10s of thousands descended upon the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia for the 2nd Annual Women's March in support of a wide array of women's rights. The march was done in solidarity with similar demonstrations across the country. Marchers donned pink hats and others carried signs stating their cause or their opposition to current policy. Women's health, equal pay and workplace rights, the #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct, and denouncement of President Trump were hot topics through out today's march.

The New York Times is reporting that Republican Congressman Patrick Meehan of Pennsylvania used taxpayer money to settle a sexual harassment allegation. He was accused of hostility after romantic overtures towards a former aide last year were rejected. The NYT story cites unnamed people who say Meehan used thousands of dollars from his congressional office fund to settle the complaint. House Speaker Paul Ryan called for an Ethics Committee investigation on Saturday. Meehan actually serves on and is being removed from that committee. In a statement released from his office, "Congressman Meehan denies the allegations. Throughout his career, he has always treated his colleagues, male and female, with the utmost respect and professionalism." Democrats are calling for Meehan to resign. Meehan represents the 7th Congressional District which covers parts of Delaware and Chester Counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania. That district in particular has been used as a prime example in the gerrymandering case in front of the PA Supreme Court.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after two people were stabbed in Center City on Saturday night. It happened around 8 p.m. on the 300 block of South Broad Street near Chestnut A 25-year-old male and 37-year-old female were both stabbed in the neck and the stomach. They were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in critical condition. Police do have a suspect in custody and have recovered a weapon. All three individuals are believed to be homeless as the incident happened outside Broad Street Ministries.

A suspect is in custody after a woman was fatally stabbed in a cemetery in the Juniata neighborhood. It happened 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 3700 block of North Front Street. The 33-year-old female victim was stabbed three times in the side. She was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital by her attacker where she died. Police do not yet have a motive.
