| Phil Murphy Takes Oath as New Jersey Governor; NFC Eagles Tickets Sell Out Fast; Nominating Panel |

Democrat Phil Murphy was sworn in on Tuesday in Trenton as the 56th governor of New Jersey, taking over for two-term Republican Chris Christie. Murphy took the oath on same bible as President John F. Kennedy. Murphy is a former Wall Street executive who worked for Goldman Sachs and also served in the Obama administration as ambassador to Germany. He promises to raise taxes on the wealthy, fund Planned Parenthood, raise the minimum wage, and legalize marijuana. "We will resist every move from President Trump and a misguided Republican Congress," Murphy said in his inaugural address. After the ceremony, Murphy signed an executive order promoting equal pay for women. The inaugural ball will be held under a tent at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Tuesday night.
Tickets to the Philadelphia Eagles' NFC championship game at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday vs the Minnesota Vikings went on sale Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster. Season ticket holders, corporate partners, etc. already have their seats. All available remaining tickets were sold out in seconds. Many fans who were ready and waiting on ticketmaster.com saw the tickets disappear right before their eyes. A lucky few were able to get their hands on their passes at face value. That doesn't mean they were cheap. Standing room only seats were priced at $170. Despite being sold out at the box office, tickets are still widely available. Right now there are 1,500 tickets available for purchase on Ticketmaster Resale. Prices range from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Same over on StubHub. You can buy a brand new 4k TV, sound system, sofa, food/drink for all your friends, and watch it all in the comfort of home for those prices.
Mayor Jim Kenney announced the 13 member "Educational Nominating Panel" that will nominate names for the new Philadelphia School Board. The panel will meet for the first time this Friday and will present Kenney with 27 nominees by February 28th. The mayor will choose the nine members from that pool of 27 to form the new local school board in March. The new board will take over from the SRC on July 1st. As of now, the City Council does not have any say over the board picks. A charter change is required for council to have veto power over the mayor's picks. Kenney supports that change. The 13 members of the nomination panel include: Wendell Pritchett, Kendra Brooks, Bonnie Camarda, Patrick Eiding, Dan Fitzpatrick, Jamie Gauthier, Peter Gonzales, Derren Mangum, Barbara Moore Williams, Stephanie Naidoff, Ivy Olesh, Kimberly Pham, and Sean Vereen. There will be seven public information sessions to explain the nomination process and change to a local school board. Here are the dates and location:

Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Mantua Civic Association, Grace Lutheran Church, Haverford and North 36th St.
Monday, Jan. 22 at 3:30 p.m. at T.M. Peirce Elementary School, 2300 West Cambria St.
Monday, Jan. 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Max Myers Recreation Center, 1601 Hellerman St.
Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:00 p.m. at Philadelphia Home and School Association, 440 North Broad St.
Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Community College of Philadelphia, Center for Business & Industry, 18th and Callowhill, C2-28
Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m. at Southwest CDC, 6328 Paschall Ave. |
