Holiday Tradition Continues at Termini Bros; Grinch Steals From Church; DHS Determines Terror Attack

For many, the holidays mean family get togethers large and small. That's followed closely by the food to feed everybody. That can be steeped in tradition with recipes handed down generations. To most, though, the local supermarket is sufficient for gathering the necessary ingredients for the various dishes and desserts. But for some, the best and only wares can be purchased at certain markets at certain times to make the perfect holiday meal. Center City's Reading Market and South Philly's Italian Market were bustling with activity the past two days with shoppers picking up the perfect produce and meats for their holiday meal. One place in particular, the Termini Brothers Bakery in South Philly, is the place to get a cannoli or other baked goods on Christmas Eve. It's a decades long tradition for customers who start lining up just after midnight on Christmas Eve and wait for the store to open at 6 a.m. that morning. The bakers are busy all day filling cannoli shells as orders fly off the counter. People come back year after year for the camaraderie as much as the baked goods.

A vandal broke into a North Philadelphia church on Sunday morning and caused $10,000 in damage. It happened at the Historic Jones Tabernacle African Methodist Episcopal Church on the 2100 block of Diamond Street. It happened sometime before Christmas Eve services. It is believed they broke in through a side entrance. They took stained glass windows, antique chairs from the pulpit, and candelabras. "I pray for those who broke in. One thing you have to realize is when you steal from God, God's going to work it out," Reverend John Clinton Reynolds, Jr. said. This Grinch didn't stop the church from holding services though. The Department of Homeland Security is calling the series of shootings targeting law enforcement officers in Harrisburg on Friday afternoon a "terror attack." 51-year-old Ahmed Aminamin El-Mofty, and Egyptian immigrant, was eventually shot and killed by police after he had opened fire on both local and state police at different locations in the city. Pennsylvania State Police, Harrisburg police, and other local authorities have not yet made a determination. El-Mofty was a naturalized US citizen. He emigrated from Egypt to the United States on a family-based immigrant visa.
