The annual re-enactment of General George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas Day 1776 during the American Revolution has been saved this year by a group of Philadelphia students and their handmade boats. The crossing was threatened by low water levels on the river making it impossible for the re-enactment group to use their replica wooden Durham boats to cross from Pennsylvania to New Jersey. Philadelphia Waterborne is a non-profit group that teaches kids boat building skills. They are lending Washington Crossing Historic Park six handmade, 12-foot rowboats to use during Monday's re-enactment. The boats only draw 6-inches of water and will be able to make the crossing. Thousands attend the event each year. For more information go to: http://www.washingtoncrossingpark.org/come-cross-with-us/

An elderly woman was struck and killed while crossing the street in South Philadelphia this morning. It happened around 6:20 a.m. at the intersection of 24th Street and Washington Avenue. The 83-year-old woman was crossing in the cross walk. She was first hit by a white Chevy Cruze and then by a dark SUV. Both drivers are cooperating with police. No charges have been filed. The investigation continues.

A shelter in place order has been put into place by police in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County after shots were fired. Police responded to a home on the 1500 block of Dennis Street around 1:30 p.m. for a report of an injured woman outside. When police arrived they encountered a bevy of gunfire from someone inside the house. The entire neighborhood was told to shelter in place and several surrounding streets were blocked off to traffic. Police and SWAT are positioned outside as the barricade situation with the suspect inside continues. No officers have been injured, but the woman remains motionless in the front yard as authorities are unable to reach her.

UPDATE: The shelter in place was lifted after 10:30 pm, 9 hours into the standoff the suspect is dead. The female victim is also dead
