Delco Bank Robber Leaves 'Bomb' Behind; 83yo Man Struck in Hit-and-Run; 85yo Man Stabbed to Death

The bomb squad responded to the scene of a bank robbery this afternoon in Delaware County after an armed robber left a suspicious device behind following the holdout. It happened around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Malvern Federal Savings Bank on the 900 block of Baltimore Pike in Concord Township. The suspect was armed with a handgun and claimed he had a bomb. He left the device behind when he fled the scene. The man is described as a black male in his mid-20s with a thin build, wearing black clothing. He was driving a two-door silver Pontiac. The bank was evacuated while the device was investigated.

An 83-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while doing yard work this morning in the city's West Oak Lane section. The driver fled the scene leaving the blue SUV in the man's front yard. It happened near the intersection of Ogontz and Andrews Avenues. The victim says he was raking leaves when he saw a white car being chased down the street by the SUV. The SUV lost control and went up on his lawn hitting the victim. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition suffering from multiple injuries. The driver got out and ran. Police have contacted the owner of the SUV at home who says he was not driving at the time, but lent it to a friend. Police are also trying to locate the white vehicle. They do not know if it was a matter of road rage or drag racing that led to the hit-and-run accident.

An 85-year-old man was found stabbed to death in West Philadelphia this afternoon. Philadelphia Police say the man was found unresponsive with multiple stab wounds inside a home around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 5300 block of Addison Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made. The investigation continues.

UPDATE: The man has been identified as 85-year-old Willie Cooper. He was discovered by his daughter. There were signs of forced entry, but it does not seem like anything was taken. Cooper was retired from the city sanitation department. He is described as having a big personality and watched over his block and his family.
