Arrest in Upper Darby Blind Man Assault; Gun Incidents in Philly Schools; Fern Rock Shooting

Upper Darby Police have arrested the suspect wanted for attacking a 74-year-old legally blind man last week. 25-year-old Marvin Harper has been charged in the November 26th attack on the unit block of Glendale Road. Harper allegedly knocked the elderly man to the ground and stole $100 and a cell phone. The victim suffered a broken hip and leg and required surgery.

There were several gun related incidents involving Philadelphia public and charter schools on Wednesday. A student at General George A. McCall Elementary and Middle School in Society Hill was arrested this morning for bringing a gun to school. There was a brief lockdown while police recovered the gun and arrested the student. In West Philadelphia, two schools were placed on lockdown following a shooting outside. Shots were fired outside of Harambee Charter School at 68th and Media Streets prompting a lockdown, as well at Overbrook High School on 1900 North 59th Street. In Northeast Philadelphia, George Washington High School also locked down today after an image of a male student holding two guns spread across social media. A female student also received threats from the suspect. Police located the suspect at home and placed him in custody.

Two shooting victims are being held in police custody at separate hospitals as suspects in a shootout in the city's Fern Rock neighborhood early Wednesday morning. It happened after 12:30 a.m. on the 5700 block of North Camac Street. Police were called for the reports of gunfire. They found one man with multiple gunshots at the scene and transported him to the hospital. He gave a description of the other suspect. The other suspect matching the description showed up at Temple Hospital suffering from a gunshot to the back. Both men were placed into custody. Police believe they shot each other and it was drug related. At the scene, investigators found 18 spent shell casings from two different guns and a vial containing marijuana.
