Cobbs Creek Hit-And-Run; Officials Concerned Of New Gun Bill; South Philly Murder Suspect In Custody

Philadelphia Police are now searching for a driver who is wanted for a hit-and-run accident involving a teen. The incident occurred on Tuesday night at around 5:30 pm near 63rd and Market Streets in the Cobbs Creek section of Philadelphia. Officials say that the driver of the vehicle hit a 14-year-old girl and then fled the scene after striking her. The teen was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Hospital. Police are continuing to search for the suspect and are trying to get a description of the vehicle.

Many local officials are concerned of a new bill that is making its way through congress. The proposed bill would require all states to recognize concealed carry gun permits issued by other states. Republican lawmakers say that the bill would help gun owners travel freely without worrying about conflicting state laws or civil suits. The bill also includes a provision that would strengthen the FBI database of prohibited gun buyers. This portion of the bill comes about after the Air Force did not report the criminal history on the gunman who shot and killed nearly 2 dozen people at a Texas church. Both the Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro and Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross have shown their disapproval towards this proposed bill. The bill is set for a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives later on this week.

A suspect has now been placed into police custody for the murder of a man in his South Philadelphia home. 23-year-old Savannah Pharo has been charged with the murder of 65-year-old Michael Massaro. The incident happened on the 1200 block of South Johnston Street. Police received a phone call asking authorities to come check on Massaro. The caller stated he may need medical assistance. When police and emergency crews arrived, they found the front door unlocked and upon further investigation, Massaro's body was on the floor in an upstairs bedroom. Officials say that Massaro appeared to have a stab wound to his abdomen. Police are continuing to investigate into a motive for the murder.
