27 Injured in West Chester Fire; Arrest in House Sitter's Murder; South Street Police Vandalized

At least 27 people were injured when a senior living facility went up in flames last night in West Chester, although investigators are still trying to account for everyone. It happened around 11 p.m. at the Barclay Friends Senior Living Community on the 700 block of North Franklin Street. The massive fire shot flames through the roof and windows. It was officially brought under control shortly before 1:30 a.m. but firefighters were dousing hot spots Friday. Over 100 people, residents and staff, were in the building and were evacuated. The residents were taken to several different locations including West Chester University and area medical facilities depending on their needs. Some residents went home with family members. This has made it harder the officials to keep track of all the residents. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton announced today that they have charged a suspect in the beating death of a house sitter in Woodbury, New Jersey, back in September. 19-year-old Brandon Wilson has been charged with the murder of 26-year-old Shawneeq Carter. It happened on September 21st inside the home on Hopkins Street. Carter was house sitting at the time. She was beaten to death with gym equipment. Her 5-year-old son and nephew were also in the house. They didn't go for help until the next day. Wilson had lived at that home as a foster child in 2015 and had been arrested for trespassing at the home in 2016. He was just released from Bucks County Prison on a drug conviction the previous day. Prosecutors believe he intended to burglarize the house but found Carter inside. Physical evidence ties him to an outside window, the gym equipment, and the victim.

Philadelphia Police are looking for a group of vandals that struck the South Street police station last night. It happened around 11 p.m. outside the station at 9th and South Street. A group of 10-12 individuals dressed in black clothes and wearing black masks and gloves were seen fleeing the area. They threw glass bottles at the building which shattered leaving red paint on the brick wall. A blue smoke bomb was set off near the entrance to the station. The windows and windshields of two police vehicles were smashed. The vandals left a hammer sticking out of the windshield of one vehicle. The group also dropped fliers with anti-police messages.
