A mistrial has been declared in the corruption case against New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez after jurors remained deadlocked on all charges after more than six full days of deliberations. U.S. District Judge Williams Walls declared the mistrial on Thursday after jurors said there were unable to reach a unanimous decision. Deliberations were restarted on Monday when one juror was replaced with an alternate. Prosecutors had accused Menendez of taking bribes from co-defendant, Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen, in exchange for political favors. Menendez allegedly received luxury vacations, private jet travel, and political contributions. He is accused of putting pressure on a $8.9 million Medicare billing dispute in favor of Melgen and a stalled contract to provide port screening equipment in the Dominican Republic, as well as obtaining U.S. visas for the doctor's girlfriends. The defense claims that they were not bribes but rather gifts between friends. Menedez also did not disclose those gifts on Senate disclosure forms. The Democratic Senator is up for reelection next year.

The escaped teen murder suspect is back in custody after being captured in Atlantic City, NJ, this morning after a 34 hour manhunt. 18-year-old Michael Huggins was apprehended on the 100 block of North South Carolina Avenue around 10 a.m. without incident. He was tracked down by members of the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force, and the U.S. Marshals. Huggins was armed with a handgun. Huggins escaped the Harborfields Youth Detention Center in Egg Harbor City just after Midnight on Wednesday with three other teens; Stephine Woodley, Raymir Lampkin, and Donovan Nickerson. The four overpowered a guard and stole his keys and made off in a vehicle. The three others were captured in Bridgeton around 9 a.m. yesterday. Huggins was being held in custody for the October 2016 murder of 21-year-old DeVante Lee.

Former Pennsylvania Governor and US Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge is in critical condition after undergoing emergency heart surgery in TX on Thursday morning. 72-year-old Ridge was attending the Republican Governor Association Conference in Austin, TX. He was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas for a cardiac catheterization procedure after calling for help from his hotel room at 7 a.m. He is responsive. Ridge was governor of Pennsylvania from 1995 - 2001. He became the first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush after it was created following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Governor Tom Wolf released the following statement on the news that former Governor Tom Ridge is in critical condition in a Texas hospital following an emergency procedure:

"Frances and I are praying for Governor Ridge and his whole family, especially Michele and their kids. We know Tom is a fighter and the Ridges should know that all of Pennsylvania is pulling for them as he recovers."
