Archdiocesan 'Cathedral Block' Project; 1 Dead, 2 Injured In Hunting Park; Man Killed In Fiery Crash

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has been drawing national attention for a major development project in the works called 'The Cathedral Block.' The proposed project is an L shaped development of housing, office and retail space that would front parts of 17th, 18th, Vine and Race Streets. Archdiocesan officials say that the project would make a better use of the land that is currently older buildings and a blacktop parking lot. Officials say that they are getting offers from 25 developers who have signed confidentiality agreements for a link to the request for qualifications and more information on the project.

A shooting occurred in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia that left 1 man dead and 2 others injured. The shooting took place at around 4 am on Sunday outside of the A Lounge and Social Club located on the 4200 block of Macalester Street. Officials say that the 27-year-old suspect shot a 39-year-old man in the face and chest after an argument. A 24-year-old man was also shot twice in the neck. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital where the 39-year-old victim was later pronounced dead. Police say that the club security guard opened fire on the suspect shooting him multiple times in the left thigh. He was also taken to a local hospital. The suspect now faces murder charges.

Officials in West Goshen Township have now identified the man killed in a fiery car crash that involved 9 vehicles, one of them a tractor-trailer, on Route 202 this past Saturday. 38-year-old Adam Swope of Malvern was killed when a tractor-trailer heading northbound entered the southbound lanes after overturning. The truck, which was carrying frozen turkeys, collided with at least 9 vehicles before it burst into flames in the middle of the highway near South Matlack Street. Swope was killed in the crash, but his passenger survived; two others involved in the crash were taken to the hospital. Crews spent around 14 hours cleaning up the wreckage of the crash, reopening the stretch of the highway on Sunday morning. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Swope was a prominent Chester County Democrat acting as the chair of the Willistown/Malvern Democrats and the executive assistant and campaign manager for Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone.
