4 Police Officers Hurt in Crash; 2yo Boy Shot Himself; Woman Stabbed and Burned in West Philly

Four Philadelphia police officers were injured when two police vehicles collided while responding to a shooting this morning in Kensington. It happened around 10:15 a.m. at D Street and Indiana Avenue. One police SUV sustained heavy front end damage. The other SUV was struck on the driver side, hit a telephone pole, and ended up in the side of a home. Two officers were in each vehicle. One officer suffered a head injury and was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition. The other three were treated at the scene. Accident investigators are reconstructing the crash. As far as the shooting, SEPTA police took one suspect into custody at Kensington and East Allegheny Avenues.

Philadelphia Police now say that the 2-year-old boy who was shot in the head in the basement of his Olney home yesterday pulled the trigger himself. Investigators determined that 2-year-old Ibn-Kareem Lawson shot himself and that it was accidental. It happened around 2 pm on the 200 block of West Godfrey Avenue. The boy's father rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police did recover the 9mm handgun which was found in the backyard. Apparently the gun was stored in a closet in the basement and somehow the toddler was able to get a hold of it. Police have determined that the gun is stolen. No word on any charges.

A woman in West Philadelphia is in extremely critical condition after being stabbed and set on fire during a family dispute on Friday morning. It happened around 8 a.m. on the 1300 block of North 53rd Street. Police were called to the scene with reports of screaming. They found the woman with a stab wound to the stomach and burns on the back of her body. She was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition. The woman's nephew is in custody. No word on the nature of the dispute.
