2-Year-Old Shot/Killed in Olney Home; Class Canceled After No Heat; Birdsboro Woman ID'd

A child was killed after being shot in the head this afternoon in the Olney section of Philadelphia. It happened around 2 pm on the 200 block of West Godfrey Street. The 2-year-old boy was struck once in the head. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center by his father where he was pronounced dead. No word yet on the events leading up to the shooting. Police believe the shooting may have been accidental. They continue to investigate.

Universal Alcorn Charter Elementary School in Philadelphia's Grays Ferry neighborhood had to close unexpectedly due to issues with the building's boiler system. The school did not have heat or hot water early this morning and the principal decided to close for the day. Not all parents received the phone and text alerts about the closing and arrived at school this morning with their children just to turn back around. The boiler was fixed by Thursday afternoon. School is closed tomorrow for Veterans Day, but it will be open again on Monday.

Authorities have identified the body of a woman found in Berks County yesterday. She has been identified as 49-year-old Michelle Amos of Robeson Township. The body was found in a wooded area behind the Reading Coffee Roasters building on the 300 block of Main Street after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Pennsylvania State Police spent hours combing through the brush and woods around where the body was found. Adjacent business were forced to shutdown, including a day care, while the police had the area cordoned off during their search. Investigators have yet to determine if Amos died at the scene or was transported there. They have also not determined if this is a homicide. They are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
