James 'Jimmy' Tayoun Sr., former Philadelphia City Councilman, Pennsylvania Congressman, restaurateur, and newspaperman, has passed away at age 87. Tayoun was by any account one of the most charismatic of Philadelphians. He represented District 1 on City Council on non-consecutive terms before resigning to run for a seat in the First Congressional District in the PA House. His second congressional term was cut short after pleading guilty to racketeering charges. Tayoun spent 40 months in federal prison in the early 90's. His family ran the Middle East restaurant in Old City for 30 years. He is also the founder of the Philadelphia Public Record weekly newspaper. A viewing will be held at St Maron's at 10th and Ellsworth on Friday night from 6-9pm. A second viewing will be held on Saturday from 9-10am, followed by funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Donations are requested in lieu of flowers to Saint Maron's Church at 1013 Ellsworth Street in South Philadelphia.

Students at Souderton High School were sent home early on Wednesday after a threatening note was found in a bathroom. Initially, students and staff were evacuated to the football stadium while the school was searched. Due to the low temperatures outside, officials decided to send students home instead of waiting out in the cold. School was dismissed at 9:45 a.m. No one was allowed back inside to collect their belongings as a precaution.

8 people were injured when a SEPTA Trolley collided with a school bus in Southwest Philadelphia this morning. It happened around 7:50 a.m. near 57th Street and Woodland Avenue. The Route 11 trolley was headed westbound when a small school bus turned in front of it. Seven people on the trolley and one person on the bus were injured. There were no children on the bus at the time. The injured were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Weather
This afternoon, Cloudy, temperatures around 60 in Center City
