Teen Shooting Victims ID'd; Bridget Foy Restaurant Destroyed in Fire; Boom/Rumbling in South Jersey

Philadelphia Police have named the two 16-year-old boys shot to death in South Philadelphia last night. They have been identified as Caleer Miller and Salvatore DiNubile. DiNubile was junior at St. Joe's Prep and was on the hockey team. Miller was a junior at Mastery Charter School. It happened before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of South 12th Street near Ritner Street. The suspects and the victims were engaged in some sort of argument when the shooter pulled out a gun and shot the two teens each once in the chest. The suspects then fled. The boys were taken to Jefferson University Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after. No arrests have been made.

Fire overnight on South Street destroyed iconic Bridget Foy's restaurant at 2nd and South Street. The fire started around 1:15 a.m. in the basement of the building. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke pouring out. Firefighters initially tried an interior attack but had to pull back because it became too dangerous inside. They brought the fire under control by around 4 a.m. Three firefighters were taken to the hospital with injuries. The neighboring Doggie Style Pet Store was also damaged. Two dogs at the store died. The Red Cross is assisting 11 pets and several animals that were displaced. The Fire Marshal is investigating. Part of the building was being torn down on Wednesday afternoon after becoming unstable. The restaurant was opened in 1978.

There were many reports of 'rumbling' across South Jersey late this morning this morning. However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) did not report any earthquakes and there hasn't been any usual weather. It is possible the boom and shaking could have been caused by a sonic boom. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division based out of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD does do routine flight testing of F-35C jets in the Atlantic Test Ranges. Those jets are capable of supersonic flight and producing sonic booms. The same thing happened almost two years ago in January 2016 (1/28/16) when a sonic boom shook South Jersey.
