Coatesville Students Stage Protest; Gas Leak in Atlantic City; Meteor Fireball Reported, Video

A few hundred students at Coatesville Area High School walked out of class on Friday morning to stage a 'Unity Event' in response to racial incidents surrounding the school in the past few weeks. The peaceful protest was sanctioned by school officials and designed by students as a safe way to express themselves. The students sat around a large triangular traffic island in front of the school and linked arms to show unity. Earlier this week, a photo showing Coatesville students standing behind pumpkins carved with racially-charged symbols spread on social media. Last month, an ethnic doll was found tied up in the locker rooms. The school district says that the students involved in that photo may face disciplinary action even though the photo was taken off school property.

A major gas leak in Atlantic City the morning is under control, but not after hundreds of people were evacuated. It happened around 11:30 a.m. near Tennessee and Adriatic Avenues. A contractor cut a 2-inch high pressure natural gas line. 750 people were evacuated from a 4-block radius including 700 students from the New York Avenue School. The gas company was able to shut down the lines. The all clear was given at 12:15 p.m. and students were allowed to return to school.

There have been many reports of a fireball that streaked across the Northeast skies on Wednesday afternoon. The American Meteor Society received 197 reports of the fireball, or large meteor, from 9 different states including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York. The bright flash of light was captured on dash cam video in Sea Girt, NJ. It happened around 3 p.m. in broad daylight which means it would have been an especially bright meteor. Tonight, the Orionid Meteor Shower continues to peak. The forecast is for clear skies and great viewing conditions. More information here.
