Woman Made Up Bucks County Rape; Shooting Suspect Arrested After Standoff; NRA Questions Bump Stocks

Police announced today that a woman who claimed to have been raped by two men in a Bucks County park on Monday has admitted to making it up. Pennsylvania State Police investigated the alleged rape and determined that it did not occur. The woman had claimed that two men abducted her while she was on the boat dock in Nockamixon State Park late Wednesday afternoon. She said they drove her to another area of the park and assaulted her. There is no word on a motive for making such a claim. There is also no word on if the woman will be charged for making false reports.

Bethlehem Township Police and Pennsylvania State Police took a double shooting suspect into custody after a standoff Thursday morning. 61-year-old John Hann was barricaded inside his car on Oakland Road starting at 9 a.m. and ending after 10 a.m. Several local schools were on lockdown during the ordeal. Hann was wanted in the shooting of a husband and wife in Lehigh Township on Wednesday night. That happened at 6:30 p.m. on the 500 block of Longacre Drive. The husband, Joseph Mullner, was shot and killed. The wife, Melinda Mullner, was injured and remains in the hospital. Police say the shooting stemmed from a long time family dispute between cousins.

The National Rifle Association is now calling for federal authorities to look at the legality of 'bump stocks' which allow semi-automatic weapons to fire like fully automatic weapons. In a statement they said, "The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations." The shooter in the recent Las Vegas attack used bump stocks to modify semi-automatic rifles to spray 100's of bullets onto the concert crowd. The devices are mechanically simple. Semi-automatic rifles require the shooter to pull the trigger each time to fire one shot. Bump stocks allow the gun to slide back and forth so the rifle's recoil 'bumps' the finger again and again to fire multiple shots. It happens much faster than a human can pull the trigger one by one and simulates a machine gun action. The NRA said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives should "immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law."
