Hazmat Situation In South Philly; Search For Church Robbers; Vigil For Las Vegas Held In Philly

A leak of phthalic anhydride caused a hazmat situation in South Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at Ashland's manufacturing located on the 2800 block of Columbus Boulevard. The agent, which is used in the making of plactics that go into fiberglass, was being released into a containment area in the facility. The vapor from the agent was then condensed in the air, causing it to flake up and settle in and outside of the surrounding property. Columbus Boulevard near Oregon Avenue had to be shut down completely to clear the contaminant. So far no injuries have been reported, but officials are continuing an investigation.

Camden County Police are now on the hunt for a pair of thieves who have robbed a local church twice. The suspects have targeted Garden Lake Bible Church in Lindenwold NJ. Over the span of a week, the suspects have been stealing copper pipes from the buildings. The church was first hit on September 24th, then three days later they were hit again but the church's pastor, Pastor Burrows caught the thief in the act. The suspect was trying to steal copper pipes from the church's basement. He tried to escape, but Police showed up in time to catch him. Police are now searching for the other two suspect accomplices. The thieves have cause around $20,000 worth of damage to the boilers and water heaters.

The organization Ceasefire PA held a vigil on Tuesday in Center City to honor and mourn the victims of the tragic Las Vegas shooting as well as to advocate for gun law reform. Local and state lawmakers as well as other advocates and religious leaders took to the stand to talk with the crowd about changing the gun laws and to contact their state and federal legislatures to bring change. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was in attendance, he spoke to the crowd saying: "Lawmakers defend gun ownership as a god given right, but healthcare coverage to treat the wounds as a god given privilege." Also in attendance was 21-year-old Tiara Parker who was a survivor of the Pulse nightclub shooting that happened in Orlando last year. Parker said because of Sunday's tragic event, this is the first time she had the courage to speak out about her experience and be an advocate for change.
