Michelle Obama Speaks at PA Women's Conference; Record Fentanyl Bust in Montco; Boy Killed in Crash

The 14th Annual Pennsylvania Conference for Women was held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Center City Philadelphia on Tuesday. The nonpartisan, nonprofit conference is the largest personal and professional networking event in the area for women. It featured over 100 thought leaders and industry experts from across the country in the fields of business, philanthropy, health, finance, media and professional development. The headline event featured writer/producer Shonda Rhimes holding a luncheon conversation with former first lady Michelle Obama. She spoke of womenâ€™s struggles with confidence, risk-taking and failure. "I am constantly telling women to speak up. Don't waste your seat at the table. If you are not going to use your voice, give it up to someone who will," Mrs. Obama told a sold-out audience of more than 12,000. "You get a seat at the table and you realize that the people around it are no smarter or better than you." Mrs. Obama also discussed parenting and life after the White House. Former President Barack Obama appeared via video at the end with a message recognizing the couple's 25th wedding anniversary which was also Tuesday.

Three people are under arrest and a large amount of the synthetic opioid fentanyl is off the streets after an undercover operation in Montgomery County. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele announced the record seizure of about 1 kilogram of the powerful painkiller. Steele said that this amount could "kill half the population of Montgomery County." He said, "Given that 2 to 3 milligrams - five or six grains of fentanyl - can be fatal, this one kilo contained anywhere between 333,000 and 500,000 fatal doses." Undercover detectives bought the drugs for $64,000 at a shopping center in Cheltenham Township on July 24th. They originally bought a 'sample' on July 11th believing it to be heroin, but determined they were dealing with fentanyl after testing. Detectives tracked the buy to a dealer in the Bronx. The suspects have been identified as 33-year-old Wilbert Taveras Payano of the Bronx, 25-year-old Lincoln Paylano Del Orbe of Philadelphia, and 29-year-old Christina Mota Soto of Philadelphia. The drug is so dangerous and has become so widespread that law enforcement and first responders now take extra precaution when entering scenes where drugs may be present to prevent exposure.

A 2-year-old boy was killed and a robbery suspect is in custody after a multi-car accident in Bucks County on Tuesday early afternoon. It happened at the intersection of Levittown Parkway and Bristol Pike (Rt. 13) around 12:15 p.m. A man was fleeing in a gold Jeep SUV after stealing speakers from Walmart going south on Rt 13. The child was in the back seat of his car. The suspect ran a red light at Levittown Parkway and was t-boned by car crossing through the intersection. The SUV flipped over and hit a third car. The child was ejected from the vehicle in the accident. The suspect tried to run away from the scene but was caught by police a short distance away. The relationship between the suspect and child is not clear.
