Protest at Philly FOP Lodge; Arrest in 6-year-old's Shooting; Newborn in Trash bag in Rhawnhurt

About a dozen members of Black Lives Matter Pennsylvania and Justice for David Jones Coalition gathered outside the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police headquarters to protest on Sunday. The protestors shouted using bullhorns and held signs. A few dozen officers stood guard outside the lodge. FOP Lodge 5 was hosting a fundraiser for suspended Officer Ryan Pownall. Tickets were $40 for food, drink, and music. Pownall was suspended 30 days with the intent to dismiss following an internal investigation into an officer involved shooting. On June 8th, Pownall shot and killed David Jones following a traffic stop for illegally driving a dirt bike. Police Commissioner Richard Ross has said that Pownall made several mistakes and policy violations, including shooting again after Jones dropped his gun and started to run away. No charges have been filed against Pownall in the case.

Philadelphia Police have arrested a suspect in the shooting of a 6-year-old boy in North Philadelphia on Friday. Central Detectives and SWAT executed a search warrant on the suspect's home on Sunday and took him into custody without incident. His identity should be released on Monday. The shooting happened on Friday night around 7:50 p.m. near 24th and Norris Streets. The boy was struck in the left shoulder and taken to St. Christopher's Hospital. He remains hospitalized in good condition.

Police are investigating after a newborn baby was found dead in a trash bag in the kitchen of a home in the city's Rhawnhurst section. Officials were called to the home on the 7800 block of Summerdale Avenue around 4:30 p.m. of a report of a woman giving birth to a still born baby. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene. It was discovered that the child had actually been born on Wednesday, September 27th. A cause of death has not yet been determined and no arrests have been made. The Special Victims Unit is investigating.
