Marple-Newtown School District officials are now investigating after a referee wouldn't allow a student on the soccer field because he was wearing religious headwear. The incident happened at an away game for Marple-Newtown against Conestoga High School. Witnesses say that the referee would not allow the Freshman student on who was wearing the religious headpiece. The referee stated that the student was breaking a rule that states "Illegal equipment shall not be worn by any player. Types of equipment which are illegal include, but are not limited to helmets, hats, caps or visors." School District officials were notified of the incident and are currently running an investigation into whether the student's rights were violated. The School District Attorney Mark Sereni stated "Our District was surprised to learn yesterday that, according to a PIAA soccer referee's decision, the PIAA apparently does not have a rule that reasonably accommodates the wearing of religious headwear by our student athletes who play soccer. Our district is investigating this ruling and has advocated and will continue to advocate for the rights of our student athletes to appropriately wear religious headgear."

Philadelphia Police are investigating a crash between a car and a SEPTA trolley that left one woman dead and two other children injured. The crash happened at around 4 pm on Wednesday on West Girard Avenue. Officials say that the woman was driving her car with her two young children when the Route 15 trolley struck her. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene and both of the children were taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and are being treated for their injuries. The youngest has been transferred. Police are continuing an investigation into the crash.

SEPTA officials are investigating the cause of a stuck train that caused delays at 30th Street Station in Center City on Wednesday. A train was stalled at 6 pm between suburban station and 30th Street Station, officials say that an electric breaker on a Paoli Throndale train was tripped twice. It sent a jolt to the train. The train was stopped for inspections, but passengers began to open the emergency exits and jump out on to the tracks. This caused SEPTA to pause on all train services in the area to ensure the safety of the passengers on the tracks. Service has since been restored, but officials are planning a full investigation.

Weather

Today, Partly Cloudy and Sunny with a high of 79 degrees in Center City.
