Funeral for Gerard Grandzol; Man Killed by SEPTA in Bridesburg; Man Shoots at Trailer in Bucks Co.

Thousands attended the funeral this morning of a Spring Garden man who was shot and killed last week in an attempted car jacking near his home. The mass was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City for 38-year-old Gerard Grandzol, a husband and father of two young daughters. Family, friends, and members of the community gathered to celebrate the his life. Gerry was protecting his 2-year-old daughter last Thursday when he refused to hand over the keys to his SUV to two brothers, 16-year-old Marvin Roberts and 21-year-old Maurice Roberts, who had already taken his wallet. The little girl was still strapped in the back seat of the vehicle. Police say that Marvin then shot him twice in the head and the pair fled. They were quickly identified through surveillance footage and have been in custody since Saturday.

A man was struck and killed by a SEPTA Regional Rail train this morning near the Bridesburg station. It happened just before 8 a.m. on the 6000 block of Keystone Street. The 42-year-old man was hit by SEPTA Train #9724 on the Trenton line. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:25 a.m. The accident is under investigation.

A Bucks County man is under arrest after opening fire on the management building of his mobile home park. 55-year-old Jimmy Stormant is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and related offenses. It happened around 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Pennwood Crossing trailer park on Galen Drive in Falls Township. Stormant was apparently angry about maintenance problems. He fired 10 shotgun blasts into the corner of the building where the husband and wife managers were located. Lt. Henry Ward of the Falls Township Police Department said, "The rounds he was using were so powerful they were traveling through the entire length of the building, exiting the back of the building, traveling across Route 13, and striking other trailers on the other side of the road." The two were unharmed. Stormant then went back to his trailer. Police found him armed with a six-shot Ruger revolver, a bottle of Johnnie Walker and a Bible. A family member helped wrestle away the gun and he was arrested. He is being held at Bucks County Prison on $750,000 bail.
